When Johanna and Jeremy first reached out about their dream Hawaii adventure wedding, they had a clear vision: to get married at the top of a scenic hike on Oahu.
“We met at the gym and discovered we both love hiking. We hike on every holiday,” they told me. “We take Jeremy’s two young sons and now they love it, too. We became a family while hiking together.”
The Challenge: A Wedding Ceremony at the Summit
They had already teamed up with the talented Hawaii adventure wedding photographer, Tara Morenfeld of Sky and Reef Photography, who recommended a lesser-known branch of the Lanikai Pillbox Hike on Oahu’s windward coast.
But there was one hurdle.
“We’ve called so many officiants,” Johanna said. “They’ll marry us at the bottom before we hike to the top, but we want to get married at the top!”
As the founder of Hawai‘i Wedding Woman, I was thrilled to say yes.

A Wedding in Hiking Boots
We met at the base of the trail and Tara led the way. We hiked together, surrounded by tropical greenery that finally opened to panoramic views.
Jeremy and Johanna wore their wedding attire with their hiking boots, a fun and fabulous combination of elegance and adventure.
At the summit, overlooking the turquoise waters of Kailua and the Mokulua Islands, the couple exchanged traditional Hawaiian wedding leis I sourced from a local florist that morning.
Personal Vows With a View
The most touching moment of the day came during their vows. Johanna and Jeremy had written their own, and their words brought tears to my eyes.
Their ceremony was intimate, emotional, and completely authentic—made even more magical by the sweeping ocean views and soft island breeze.
Although friends and family couldn’t join in person, the couple streamed their Hawaii elopement ceremony live on Facebook, so everyone they love could witness it from afar.
From start to finish, the ceremony reflected the uniqueness of the couple’s love story and the values that they share.
